IDT and OCLC visit and work at the Library Department

On the afternoon of December 12, 2016 . At the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, there was a meeting to exchange information about library professionalism between the Library Department and representatives of OCLC global library cooperative . Attending the meeting were Ms. Vu Duong Thuy Nga - Director of Library Department, Ms. Doan Quynh Dung - Deputy Director of Library Department, to OCLC, with Mr. Andrew H. Wang - OCLC Vice President, OCLC Asia Pacific, Ms. Shu-En Tsais - Executive Director, OCLC Asia Pacific Services, Mr. Duong Dinh Hoa - CEO of IDT Vietnam, representative of OCLC in Vietnam. The meeting focused on discussing the issues of OCLC's latest results, achievements for the purpose of connecting global libraries and sharing information resources among OCLC member libraries around the world. In 2016 is the 45th anniversary of the formation and development of the Worldcat global federation index system. One of OCLC's core products for resource use and sharing libraries, as of 2016 Worldcat is currently the largest global federated catalog database in the world with 380 million bibliographic records and 2.4 billion holdings. Libraries can through Worldcat access to global information resources spread throughout human history and also in the opposite direction to promote the image of their library to the world. On the side of the Library Department, Ms. Vu Duong Thuy Nga also thanked OCLC for sharing and was impressed with what OCLC has done, and hoped that OCLC will support Vietnamese libraries in the future can use OCLC products, share OCLC's experiences in issues such as how to build and organize a joint index system between Vietnamese libraries as well as more advanced exchanges qualifications of Vietnamese librarians today. At the end of the meeting, OCLC also expressed their gratitude to the Vietnamese side and hoped that more Vietnamese libraries will become OCLC members and will contribute to information about library materials Vietnam to the world.
